Giving

Why Give?

Giving to the work of the Lord is an important and necessary aspect of Christian worship.

Christians are called to give readily, eagerly, joyfully, willingly and generously (2 Corinthians 8, 9). The Apostle Paul’s statement in 2 Corinthians 9:7 ought to inform the way that a Christian gives, “Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

The very model for Christian giving is the Lord Jesus Christ, “For you know the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by His poverty might become rich.” (2 Corinthians 8:9) We give in response to all that Jesus Christ has done for us in His incarnation, life, death, resurrection, ascension and intercession. Considering the gift of grace that we have received, through Jesus Christ, should cause us to give the way 2 Corinthians 8 and 9 call us to.

Christians are called to contribute funds to their local church in order to support the work of God in our congregation, our city, and around the world. Cheerful, generous, and regular contributions to the ministries of our church is the responsibility of every member at HBC.
